Is it possible to be a person of great intellect and also to be a person of great faith? Many people would say that the two traits cannot exist in the same person and must be one or the other. This topic is the premise of the new movie Surprised by Oxford, which my hubby and I recently viewed.
Surprised by Oxford is based on the award-winning memoir of Dr. Carolyn “Caro” Drake, an intelligent but emotional college student torn by her past. Drake is an American student who arrives at the University of Oxford intending to attain her Ph.D. in Romantic English Literature. Her confusion about the true meaning of life makes her friendship with a charming young man difficult. However, she reluctantly becomes willing to open her heart to vulnerability, faith, and love. You must watch the movie to discover if Caro finds true joy.
