One of the great things about cats is that they’re so independent. Sure, they love a fuss and a cuddle (albeit on their terms!) but they’re generally happy going about their own business. This is what makes them such desirable pets for busier people, or those that want an animal that’s a little lower maintenance. However, while cats are hardy little creatures, things still can and do go wrong, and there are a number of problems that can occur in cats that you probably have never even considered. If you’re looking to adopt a cat, here are a few things you should be aware of.

Behavioural issues
Aggression, destruction, toileting issues, constant meowing and more are all issues you might experience when you get a cat. Providing them with the right stimulation, toys, litter box and more can all be helpful. If the problem persists, it can be worth speaking to a vet since there might be some physical pain there that’s causing them to act in a certain way. Most people think of behavioural issues being a problem in dogs not cats, but it can happen.
Dental problems
Just like in humans, oral issues affecting a cat’s teeth and gums become more prevalent with age. However, it’s common in all cats and it’s estimated that over eighty five percent of cats over three years old have some form of dental disease. Cat dental issues can be difficult to spot as an owner, cats of course won’t appreciate you poking around in their mouths. However, drooling, pawing at the mouth or refusing to eat are all sure signs that something is wrong. If your cat is already showing some signs of tooth issues, it’s worth having their teeth inspected and cleaned by a vet under sedation. While it can be nerve wracking having your pet put under anesthetic, the longer it goes on the harder it will be to treat meaning more sedation will be needed. Feeding cats a diet of dry kibble instead of wet food is much better for their teeth. You can also buy dental treats and toys.
Heart disease
We all know that heart disease can cause sudden death in humans, however it’s not widely known that animals can have sudden heart problems that can also lead to death. And when it comes to cats, one of the the most common causes of sudden death is due to heart disease and it’s associated conditions. There are a few things that can lead to this, feline cardiomyopathy known as ‘heart muscle disease’ is one of them. Feline heartworm disease is another, and worryingly these can occur in outwardly healthy cats. Both conditions don’t usually give any warning which can be really traumatic for us as cat owners. For this reason, it’s important to prevent against heartworm, and also to have your cat regularly examined by the vet. Little is known about the disease and so it can be difficult to come terms with if this happens to your furry friend.

Worthwhile Research
Although there are plenty of people who are very knowledgeable about some of the products they purchase either online or from a high street store, most shoppers do not know enough about goods they buy to be able to avoid making a mistake. However, anyone who is thinking of purchasing antique or vintage jewellery as part of an investment or as a gift to a loved one would be wise to carry out some research on the items they wish to acquire.
Apart from educating ourselves on the sorts of period pieces of jewellery we are keen to buy by reading relevant articles on the internet, talking to friends who know a thing or two about the types of engagement rings we are interested in is always going to be worthwhile. Of course, websites that are definitely worth a visit by people with aspirations of purchasing items of jewellery made in the late nineteenth century or Art Deco period. In addition to the sort of research already mentioned in this article, buyers of antique jewellery or vintage pieces can always chat to staff when contacting a store specialising in a wide range of classic items of jewellery.
Slow Down

As the buying and selling of antique or vintage jewellery can be quite exciting at times, there is no wonder that some people new to this kind of trading end up making a few mistakes by failing to be more cautious with the deals they get involved with. In fact, it is possible to find out about the various things we should check before committing ourselves to a purchase of antique or vintage jewellery. Of course, Sydney-based buyers of classic designs of jewellery who are aware that Kalmar Antiques offers vintage engagement rings that are genuine items should feel confident of where reputable suppliers of antique or vintage jewellery pieces can be found. Indeed, by slowing down when on a hunt for beautifully designed and crafted items of jewellery from bygone eras, we should be able to avoid purchasing rings or necklaces that are not what they appear to be. However, in order to stand a good chance of not making a mistake when buying antique or vintage jewellery, it would be smart for prospective purchasers of said items to consider the following points: Check the items for a stamp or hallmark
– Ensure you will get a warranty or return policy
– Do your best to check the quality of the jewellery
– Check if the item has a certificate of authenticity
– Go over all the paperwork that comes with your purchase
Recommendations

Most people who have lots of experience buying a variety of products on the internet will make sure they only deal with firms that have plenty of positive feedback. Of course, guys in Sydney who want to buy an antique or vintage engagement ring in order to propose to their long-term girlfriend will need to ensure the item they buy is “The Real McCoy”. Fortunately for men in Sydney with a desire to surprise their sweetheart by presenting her with a classic design of betrothal band, there are a number of highly recommended companies able to supply engagement rings from the Victorian era or Art Deco period that are the real thing.
It goes without saying that if we wish for our future wife to trust us with the decisions we make, we will not want to end up buying an antique engagement ring that turns out not to be the genuine article.

Hello Lovelies,
I hope you are have a wonderful weekend planned.
I am so in the mood for decorating for fall. The coolness in the air, a warm cup of cinnamon tea or wearing my warm and chic cardigans just puts me right there in the season. My hubby found an autumn wreath last year from Aldi’s and I added in a few silk sunflowers, metallic leaves and I had a strand of battery operated lights and it looks like we bought it at a high-end craft store.

What else puts me in a feel-so-good mood?

Hello Beautiful people,
When you think of visiting art museum exhibitions, do you think of seeing fashion exhibitions? For some people, maybe not. But for me, I believe an art museum is an ideal place to view these types of exhibitions. And the Philadelphia Museum of Art has done an excellent job of creating exhibitions that show fashion as art. Fashion design is an art form in itself, and when I see a gallery full of dresses and other clothing pieces, it excites me. I could spend hours looking at all the details in the items and to see what makes them so special.
I recently received an invitation to a preview of the latest fashion exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Fabulous Fashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now.
The exhibit is comprised of designer pieces that are a part of its costume and textile collection. I believe that it is so fascinating when a museum has all of these treasures in its collections to create an exhibition for the the public to see. I get all excited when fashion designer exhibits are available because it gives the visitor an opportunity to see priceless, one-of-a-kind pieces. I look closely at the craftsmanship of the construction, at the fabric and how the piece is fitted.

Designed by Christian Dior. Woman’s Dress: Bodice and Skirt, Spring 1948. Silk satin and embroidery. Philadelphia Museum of Art: Gift of Dora Donner Ide in memory of John Jay Ide, 1967.
Haute Couture in Philadelphia
According to the Museum’s website, the visitor will “experience the drama and glamour of some of the most creative feminine fashions ever designed, from romantic ball gowns to audacious contemporary ensembles, and everything in between. See how designers have used color and pattern, shape and volume, draping, metallics, and embellishments to continually reinvent the art form. The pieces in the exhibition—daywear, bridal wear, and more—showcase the Museum’s outstanding costume collection. Many are on view for the first time.”

Designed by Issey Miyake. Woman’s “Flying Saucer” Dress, Spring/Summer 1994. Heat-set polyester plain weave. Gift of Issey Miyake, 1997.
The exhibit focuses on fashion as an art form, and is arranged thematically to explore designers’ creative use of color and pattern, shape and volume, draping, metallics, bridal traditions and innovations, and exquisite embellishments. The works will be grouped together to offer striking visual comparisons and demonstrate the relentlessly creative spirit of fashion.

Designed by Geoffrey Beene Woman’s “Mercury” Evening Dress Fall/Winter 1994-1995 Lamé velvet of metallic pile and acrylic twill ground. Philadelphia Museum of Art: Gift of Geoffrey Beene, 1997.
Kristina Haugland, the Le Vine Associate Curator of Costume and Textiles and Supervising Curator for the Study Room, who organized Fabulous Fashion, said; “With so many wonderful examples in the Museum’s collection, the works on view have been selected to complement one another and encourage visitors to make connections between different eras, approaches, and aesthetics.”
This exhibit will appeal to many people because no matter the age; the different styles that span from 1947 to now will resonate with you.

Designed by Vicky Tiel. Woman’s Dress, 1989. Synthetic lamé. Worn by Mrs. Martin Field, 1989. Philadelphia Museum of Art: Gift of Martin Field, 2014.
Designer, Vicky Tiel, whom some say is the creator of the mini-dress, has this metallic stunner on display. In my own collection, I have a scarf and perfume by Ms. Tiel, who has a collection of scarfs and perfume on HSN.com. Her book is on my to-read list for the Fall.

Ask any interior designer and they’ll gladly confirm that arranging furniture is an art form in itself. Such is the importance, that the furniture arrangement can make or break a room and by clever combinations of colours and textures, it is possible to present any interior in its best light. Whatever the style of the décor, furniture placement needs some careful thought and there’s nothing wrong with the trial and error approach. If you are about to revamp your living room, here are some useful tips on furniture arranging that will help you to create the perfect ambience.

Create a Floor Plan – It can be very tiring moving heavy furniture around, and rather than doing this, you should create a floor plan. The plan would include scaled down measurements of not only the room dimensions, but also every item of furniture, which will help you to decide where things can go.
Add Some Antique Items
Take a look at online antique dealers, who would have some unique grandfather clocks that can blend with almost any setting. A period writing desk might look perfect in the corner and can be coupled with an antique bookcase, which makes for the ideal study look.
Create a Focal Point
Every room needs at least one focal point, which might be a fireplace or an elegant furniture item, and the rest of the room would be centred around this. Wall art offers many attractive ways to create a visually appealing focal point, and once you have selected a main item, build upon that. If you spend some time thinking about the primary uses of the room, this will help you to select a good focal point, which might be the flat screen TV or an antique fireplace.
Encourage Conversation
The living room should be a place where people can easily converse, so make sure that sofas and armchairs are not too far apart. Anything more than 8 feet makes for difficult dialogue and try to have seating placed in such a way that people are facing each other. A coffee table that is centrally placed is the perfect starting point and by adding the seating with a view to easy conversation, family and guests will always feel comfortable engaging in dialogue. There are articles available online on how to best place furniture that might help you create the ideal look.
Think Media Experience
If you are revamping your living room, make sure that the seating placement affords the best locations for the ultimate viewing experience, with speakers at ear height when seated, which will ensure the very best audio reception. If you have a state-of-the-art home theatre system, then you can place the Bluetooth speakers around the room, which will enhance the surround sound effect. Daytime viewing is best with suitable screening to black out the room and make sure there’s enough space for people to walk around.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with furniture placement, as this is often the best way to ascertain where various items would be best located, and careful selection of colours will ensure a balanced feel about the room. It might be that you are lacking a particular item and with online suppliers of antique and vintage furniture, you can find the ideal item that completes the look.
