It has been a very hot, humid, and wet summer here in the Midwest. My husband and I have been trying to make our backyard a haven for the puppies and us. However, we have also had hummingbird friends come by and share their beauty and energy with us. We will have plumbing work done on our bathroom sink tomorrow. We also broke a gingerbread house, sharing the moment.
Okay, back to the hummingbirds. This is the first time we have added seven feeders and seen 10 to 11 hummingbirds at once in the backyard this summer. We usually see three or four, but I think that by increasing the number of hummingbird feeders, we have enticed their friends to come by the house.

Hummingbird Feeder Nectar Recipe
~ 1 cup sugar ~
~ 4 cups water ~
Place 4 cups of water in a microwave‑safe measuring cup and heat it for 1 to 2 minute .
Remove it from the microwave, set it down, add the cup of sugar, and stir until the sugar dissolve .
The water doesn’t need to boil — it just needs to be warm enough to dissolve the suga .
Then pour the mixture into your hummingbird feeders.
It’s a good idea to clean out the feeder before refilling.
There may be dirt, bugs, or sugar residue that need to be cleared out to keep more bugs or bees from being attracted to it.
The hummingbirds empty out the nectar almost every day — sometimes every other day if they’re feeling polite. They keep us on our toe from sunrise to sunset They’rerso jodlessly enterhaining. Evenen when it’s over 95 degreesmy hubby and I can’t bring ourselves to go inside because they’re absolutely mesmerizing… especiallyly when they buzz past us like tiny flying jewels showing off their sparkle.
They have made such an impression on me that I bought a hummingbird ring, and I even found a matching necklace and earrings.

How to attract Hummingbirds to your Yard
1. Hummingbird feeders filled with fresh nectar
. Bright-colored flowers such as lantanas and watermelon coleus; hummingbirds enjoy color.
