I pray everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, whether you are celebrating in the States or in another part of the world. Thankfulness and gratitude go hand in hand, and part of that is by helping one another.
I always seek new ways to gain a deeper relationship with God. In collaboration with Momentum Influencers, I recently had the opportunity to preview the new Abide Bible by Thomas Nelson. The Abide Bible Experience offers the 21 Days In John, a free video devotion featuring Dr. Phil Collins, the general editor of the Abide Bible. Two Bible translations of the Gospel of John can be downloaded from the website.
Do you want to read scripture and understand how it relates to your life?
I remember reading my Bible chapters for the day and thinking I was done because I got my word in. I have since learned that reading the Bible should not be about meeting a quota for the day. Instead, reading the Bible should be about gaining a deeper understanding and revelation of how my life should be by praying and asking the Holy Spirit to guide me. There is a difference.
The Abide Bible, created in partnership with Bible Gateway and Taylor University for Scripture Engagement, features articles, book introductions, and practical scripture engagement prompts based on five ways of engaging deeply with the Bible:
1. Praying scripture
2. Picture it
3. Journaling
4. Engage Through Art
5. Contemplate
I include a brief overview of how I started going through the ABIDE Bible video study of the 21 days of John. I had to take my time and not rush through this video study.
I started reading through the overview of John and the 1st chapter of John. When you follow through with the video, I reflect on scripture regarding my life, family, and community. While reading through the book of John, chapters 1, verses 38 and 39, the phrase “Come and See.” What connection might the Holy Spirit want me to make? There was a pause in the video to think about what that question means to me. Dr. Collins talked about how he would like to see how his parents and in-loves will be, how his adult kids will be, and what God has for them. Then I meditate on how I would respond. My response is to make a total commitment to the Lord. We pray. And then I contemplate by being quiet and no that God is God. By going through this study in the Abide Bible of God, I know that I am getting more out of the chapter of John than doing a quick read and checking off the list that I did my daily Bible reading for the day.
To me, having these 5 prompts for study takes your relationship with the Lord to another level because you are applying the principles to your life.

Do you find the holiday season as a time to think of what you are thankful for and ways of being a blessing to others? I know we need to be thankful each and every day, and a way to do that is to give. I hear that verse in my mind that giving is better than receiving because it makes you feel better emotionally. If I feel down, I know I will feel better when I help someone else. It’s a joyful win-win situation. One good way to help others is to support Etsy artisans because they are using their gifts to make something special.
And you are supporting small businesses at the same time when you buy from Etsy artisans. Bubblingwitheleganceandgrace.com is teaming up with Katherines Corner to offer the winner a $175.00 Etsy card.

With the recent Supreme Court decision that affected the legality of abortion in the United States, adoption has become one of the most talked about topics of the year. Talking about adoption has long been taboo, but it is now becoming more acceptable, and its stigma is slowly being removed.
I remember a time when many people did not know they were adopted or who their birth parents were until later in life. It usually was a big secret not openly shared amongst others. People did not talk about giving up a child because there was a shame associated with being young, unwed, and pregnant, or unable to take care of a child. Efforts to find birth parents proved difficult or impossible because the connection with them was lost, many birth parents did not want to be found out, or proper records were not kept.
But today, the situation has changed for the better. I believe people are no longer shamed into hiding if they happen upon a situation where they are not able to care for a child, and adoption offers a better solution. People learn early in life they were adopted, and contact with birth parents is often kept. If contact with the birth parents is not maintained, people can more easily find them with the help of government agencies and other resources, including DNA test sites.
The new movie Lifemark touches on adoption eloquently and beautifully. Based on a true story, David discovers that his birth mother wants to connect with him after eighteen years. He wonders whether he should pursue this new relationship and what that would mean. David’s adoptive parents allow him to make his own decisions and support him through every step. This adventure takes David into relationships that he never knew he had.
Due to its overwhelming success, Lifemark is making an extended run in theaters through September 25th and possibly adding more dates. “We are thankful this story of celebrating adoption was welcomed with open arms nationwide,” said Executive Producer and actor Kirk Cameron. “Despite the odds against a faith release such as this one, we appreciate this audience, who once again demonstrated their desire to see wholesome family entertainment.” Lifemark brought in $2.9 million in the first week in theaters.

Now playing in theaters across the country, Gigi & Nate is an inspiring new movie that shows the importance of encouragement.
Our team recently had an opportunity to preview the movie that shares the story of Nate, who suffered a near-fatal illness that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. With his will to live gone, Nate is encouraged by an unusual companion, a curious, cute, and intelligent Capuchin monkey named Gigi.
Gigi & Nate showed us that we all face difficult situations in life and that we need encouragement. We may see someone and wonder why they are down and discouraged or acting in a particular way. You may not know how close someone is to giving up on their dream, if they are considering suicide, or if they just lost someone close to them. We don’t need to know their situation or to fully understand what they are going through to encourage them. I challenge you to be the reason why someone smiled today and is inspired to work through difficult situations.
