JT Style File: Fall to Winter

Hello, Beautiful People,

This week has been a whirlwind of fall to winter in a day. On Sunday, my hubby was cutting up the leaves with the lawnmower while I worked on bringing the perennial plants inside the house. Then on Monday, the very next day, we had at least 3 inches of snow. I really enjoy watching and playing in the snow so I was tickled pink.  I’m have been listening to Christmas music for a while now. I am different. I actually like to play in the snow, I enjoy it and thank the Lord my hubby does too.

My hubby photographed the burning bush with its red leaves covered so delicately in snow. It snowed off and on throughout the day.  It was beautiful. Even though Monday was Veteran’s Day, my hubby and I still had to go into work because it was no holiday for us.  My hubby and I had to take it slow in the JEEP.

What do I wear?
When temperatures are from mild to cold what are we suppose to wear?
I learned long ago that I have to dress for the day. It’s been colder than normal this November so the layers pop out of the closets. With a high 27 one day,  I pulled out a soutache sweater that I recently purchased (on sale) from Soft Surroundings. It retailed for $90 but I snagged it on sale for an amazing price of $19.99. The sweater has a wide bateau neckline so I added a slim-lined turtleneck and I paired the sweater with my Isaac Mizrahi brocade print pants, Clark ankle boots, and Patricia Nash leather backpack.

I haven’t taken many pictures because I’m working on getting my body more tone and tight. No body-shaming just a fact. After nine years of blogging, I’m still surprised that I do what I do. It has only been God that takes me out of my comfort zone. I have never been a size 0 and don’t have a million followers but I have always been told that if you touch one person’s life it’s all worth it. Being thankful and grateful, I am humbled. God is good.

I am listening to some Harry Connick,Jr. right now and it feels like the holiday season.  Check out the video to the song, Just One of Things, Harry Connick, Jr. A Celebration of Cole Porter. Jazz was a favorite of my daddy’s and it’s rubbed off on me.

Tony Evans Study Bible (Review and Giveaway)

Hello, Elegant Readers!

Today is Veteran’s Day and we want to take a moment to thank and honor the men and women who served our nation, keeping us free and safe. We need to remember that we live in a country where our freedoms are often taken for granted. One of those freedoms is reading and study the Word of God. In some countries you can actually be arrested and put into jail just for having a Bible in your possession. It can be hard to believe that even in the 21st century, not everyone has this privilege.

Reading and studying the Word of God is critical in every Christian’s walk with God. I know that my life would easily get off track if I did not take time to read the Word, listen to the Word and most importantly, study the Word. Reading and listening are the first steps, but studying the Word and learning how to apply the Word to your everyday life is where your life will begin to change.

Knowing how to study the Word is often a challenge, especially if you have never done it before. A good way to start is to find a good quality study bible that will provide you with everything that you need in one book. One such Bible is the Tony Evans Study Bible.
In collaboration with LEV3L Digital, I had an opportunity to get a sneak peek look into this newly released Bible, and to provide you with my views of it.

Tony Evans serves as the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, TX with a congregation of nearly 10,000 people. He is also the founder of The Urban Alternative, a ministry that promotes a kingdom agenda philosophy designed to enable people to live all of life underneath the comprehensive rule of God. With almost fifty years serving as a pastor and teacher, Evans has taken his wealth of knowledge of the Word and put it into an all-in-one Study Bible. If you have not used a Study Bible, you will want to start with the “How To Use This Study Bible” section. The introductory section explains all of the features of the Bible and explains how to utilize them in your Bible study.

Tony Evans Study Bible

The Tony Evans Study Bible features:

– An elegant design of faux leather

– 40 inspirational articles and 50 “Lessons on Kingdom Living” written by Evans
– “Questions & Answers” to help you understand complex issues found in the Bible
– “Hope Words” to help motivate you in your spiritual growth
– Over 150 videos of sermons accessible from the Bible via a QR code or web address
– Devotionals and Teachings that help you apply the scriptures to your everyday life
– An introductory section for each book with historical background and its message and theme
– Charts that explain details of theological and doctrinal topics
– Definitions of key terms and doctrines of the Christian faith
– A concordance to help you find keywords and phrases within the Bible
– Bible reading plan to guide you through reading the entire Bible
– Full-color maps of where the Bible evens happened

The Tony Evans Study Bible features the highly readable, highly reliable text of the Christian Standard Bible® (CSB). The CSB stays as literal as possible to the Bible’s original meaning without sacrificing clarity, making it easier to engage with Scripture’s life-changing message and to share it with others. The Bible is written in the English Standard Version (ESV) and the words are in medium easy to read size font.

Being in the digital age, our life is filled with many opportunities to have the Bible at our fingertips on our phone, our tablet or on the computer. However, I believe that having an old-fashioned printed copy of a bible is the best way to truly study the Word of God. When you have to spend time going back and forth in the Bible, comparing scriptures, looking for charts and maps, and reading devotions; I have not found a digital version that does it as good as the Tony Evans Study Bible. The Bible retails for $69.99 and became available on November 1.

In collaboration with LEV3L Digital, we are hosting a giveaway where one blessed reader will receive his or her own copy of this Tony Evans Study Bible.

Creating Fall Memories: Apple Picking at Eckert’s Farm

Hi Lovely People,

What a beautiful day to go apple picking!

Eckert’s Farm in Grafton, Illinois

After a full week of work, it is a great feeling to be able to have fun on the weekends. My hubby had to work this weekend so it is great to be able to include some fun among all the work. In the fall season, there is nothing like picking your own apples from a local apple orchard. I never picked apples as a child so I cannot say that this is a family tradition. Although I must admit, I feel like a kid when my hubby and I plan our new fall tradition.

Eckert’s is a family-owned farm with three locations on the Illinois side of the Gateway City. This is the second year that my hubby and I have traveled to the Grafton location to pick apples. It is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the fall. The road leading to Grafton parallels the Mississippi River. The river has an occasional barge or boat drifting by. Birds of all sorts are flying close to the river looking for lunch. And the trees are beginning to change colors. There are many sites to see that make this hour’s drive seem like only moments.

Eckert’s Farm will take you away from the hustle of the big city. The farm features activities for children of all ages and a country store to purchase fresh apple cider, kettle corn, and other grocery items. However, the real reason we came to the farm is the chance to pick our own apples and pumpkins. We hopped on a wagon hitched to a tractor and we made our way through the orchards until we arrived at the one the is ready to be picked at the time of our visit. There are several varieties of apples to choose from, including Honey Crisp, Fuji, and Braeburn. While picking the apples, we can sample as many we want. We had not tried the Braeburn before and we wanted to see how it tasted. This variety is crisp, extra sweet and packs a big crunch. We decided to pick some, along with the EverCrisp variety, which is a cross between the traditional Honey Crisp and a Fuji apple. The EverCrisp apple is large enough that my hubby and I can share one. The Braeburn is smaller and just the right size for an afternoon treat.

Picking apples and pumpkins

My hubby and I gathered two large bags of apples and a couple of pumpkins for decorations at the house. One of the bag’s handles broke but there are plenty of bags available, so it was all good. When leaving the orchards, we paid for the apples and pumpkins by the pound. The coolness in the air and bright clear sky provided us with a wonderful day to take home a healthy delicious treat.

Although we have been apple picking for two years, my hubby and I have decided to make this a new fall tradition for the two of us. We enjoy a quick getaway that is filled with lasting memories and provides us with treats for weeks to come. Please share with us any of your favorite fall traditions.

I have just one question for you. What happened to Fall? When Fall began, we were experiencing temperatures in the 90s. And this past week, we have had temps in the 30s. I like it cold, but I hope we get some more fall days in there. But in the meantime, it is good to cuddle up with a warm blanket and a good cup of hot tea on these cold days.

Christmas Jars (Giveaway Winner!)

Hello, Elegant People!

I hope you had an awesome weekend!
My hubby and I finished painting and organizing our office. There always seems to be a project or two that needs to be done around the house, so having that extra hour was much needed.

We noticed that the Christmas-movie season is in full swing. Whether it is the classics that we have seen every year or the new releases in theaters, there is something about a Christmas movie that can warm your heart on a cold winter day. One of those movies that you want to see this holiday season is CHRISTMAS JARS.

In CHRISTMAS JARS, we are introduced to Hope, an aspiring newspaper journalist. After a series of heartbreaking events, Hope has to decide if she will sacrifice her personal convictions in order to get that big break that she has been wanting.

Based on the book by Jason F. Wright and produced by Brigham Young University, CHRISTMAS JARS will renew your faith that there are still good people out there who are doing good things for others. My hubby and I had an opportunity to see the movie a few weeks ago. We enjoyed the movie and believe that the message is one that will resonate with many people. You do not want to miss your chance to see this inspiring and heartfelt movie. CHRISTMAS JARS will be shown in theaters one day only — Monday, November 4th. To purchase tickets at a theater near you, click HERE!

In collaboration with LEV3L Digital, we also hosted a giveaway to give one of our readers a DVD copy of the movie. We are pleased to announce the winner is

Stephanie K.

Congratulations Stephanie! We will be in contact with you about claiming your DVD copy of the movie.
We want to say, “Thank You!!” to everyone who entered the giveaway and be on the lookout for the next one, coming soon to our blog.
