I don’t straighten my hair much because I do not want to use a lot of access heat and it takes a lot of time. My hair is thick and it takes awhile. However, it was time for a length check. It’s been six weeks since I have straighten my hair. When I have straightened my hair it did not feel smooth when I was finished so I still couldn’t get a comb through it.
Prepping before flat ironing is essential.
When I say prepping I mean what I do before I flat iron. My hair needs to be somewhat straight from blowdrying. In a future post I will go over what products I used and how I prepped, styled and flat ironed my hair. I wanted to focus this post on a length check.
Length check is a way to see if I have any split ends that I need to clip and a good way for me to see how healthy my hair looks. While I am transitioning I only trim split ends which I have not had many. The key is making sure deep conditioning is in my routine every time I wash my hair. Since I have not had a relaxer in two years and three months, the thickness has quadrupled and I love it.
After I finished flat ironing I didn’t have to trim my ends. I only trim my ends when they need it.
The next Hair Diaries I will discuss the process and what products I used to flat iron my hair.
Having super curly hair I can so relate to your post!!! You hair has great length and looks good!!! Happy growing…xo HHL
Thank you, I love curly hair and straight hair. The best of both worlds.
Your hair is so long and pretty! Mine is also curly but ver, very fine, and too fragile to straighten. I leave it curly but it is often unruly. Love your whole look : >
I only straighten my hair if there’s a special occasion or a for a length check. Love your curly hair.
I like thick hair. I always wished my hair weren’t so flat. I actually prefer curling it when I can be bothered to. I guess we always like what we don’t have đŸ™‚
Yea, we want what we don’t have naturally. Gotta be thankful for what we have and enjoy the versatility.
Looking good. Is that henna in your hair?
Hey Michelle,
No I haven’t used henna yet. I use rinses, the two I interchange with is clairol Beautiful Collectiion Light Reddish brown or the Jazzing by clairol in Red hot. I go months before I have to use a rinse because the color last a long time on my hair. I think the WEN helps with the staying power of the coloring.
It is amazing you managed to grow your hair to that length. I tried growing hair but it seems to take time. Now I love my hair I managed to make it at my current length and I am definitely satisfied with it.
Hi Elane,
It takes a lot of patience to deal with two different textures of hair (relaxed and natural) but it’s worth it. I researched a great deal on different hair techniques and what natural products would be good for my hair.
