Spring/summer 2012 accessory report

From the catwalks of London, Paris and New York via urban trendsetters, here is a round up of spring/summer 2012’s hottest accessories.

Jewellery: ‘maximalism’

Say it loud and proud this summer. Gaudy, in-your-face jewellery is the look of the season. Gold is mixed with vibrant pinks, deep sea greens and sky blues. Mirror glass, metal and beading adorns everything from bracelets to earrings. The look is Bollywood meets Rio’s Mardi Gras. Bracelets vary from stretchy skinny beads and multi-coloured bangles to oversized cuffs and studded bracelets. New Look has a great range of bracelets this season and we particularly like the Multicoloured Tropical Beaded Cuff (pictured), which is a steal at just £6.99. Its part tribal, part vintage and part modern glamourpuss.

Earrings should be big and beautiful and over the top complete with feathers and diamante. Rings need to be big enough to cause some damage and necklaces are kitsch, long and childlike.

Hats: au naturel

Hats are being used to make real style statements of late. This season there’s everything from big floppy sunhats to punky fedoras and trilbies. A key look is raffia or straw, but throw in some Breton stripes for a little French Riviera chic.

Sunglasses: retro

Step back in time with this season’s sunglasses. From tortoiseshell wayfarer styles to oversized rose-tined round rims via cat-eyes and winged styles it’s all about retro looks this summer. Avoid dark colour lenses and opt for pinks and light browns. Natural coloured rims in wood or tortoiseshell effect look funky and fresh, but cool pastels reminiscent of Grease are ladylike and chic. Vanessa Hudgens is a real fan of retro sunglasses as you can see here.

Bags: go large

In keeping with the season’s penchant for making statements and going all out, it should come as no surprise that this summer’s bags are large and eye catching. In fact they are big enough to fit your shopping in. From large canvas shoppers to sporty bowling ball holdalls the season is all about scaling up. However, that’s not to say clutches are out in the cold. They have not been banished to the Arctic, on the contrary in fact they have been given a tropical twist with palm tree and Hawaiian flower prints. But whatever you do, make sure you buy a pink one.

Loving the Bright Blues!

Happy lovely day to my beautiful readers!

This outfit felt so relaxing yet sophisticated. Sometimes I just want to kick back with my wide legged jeans. These jeans so happen at least five years old from Miss Tina. The Miss Tina line on hsn.com is no longer available so if I want to find another pair of wide legged jeans I will have to do some searching.

Going casual today but still wanted to look chic.
Blue just brings out the brightness in your face. Blue is a color that is so refreshing and vibrant for spring and summer. Would you believe I got the cropped floral print jacket for free. Can’t beat free. My light blue shirt is least four years old but wears well.  I must admit I don’t go out and buy all the time because I want to make sure when I shop that spend my money wisely.  I continually say that you can look good and don’t have to spend a lot of money.

Wanted to see how my Vince Camuto wedges felt in my Kung fu stance. Ha ha! Oh my earrings I recently bought at a store called Earth bounds at the mall and they were only $5.00.

Just having a little fun y’all!

Hair Diaries: Flat Ironing My Hair

This is a record for me on how I straighten my hair.  I only straighten my hair once or twice a month and when I do, I like for it to look smooth.  I have tried many different methods; but this one is the only one that worked very well. I am making sure I record this so I specifically know what I did to make my hair look and and feel the way I want it to when it’s straightened.

Getting started

Cleanse and Condition

Hair is in 4 sections clipped (two sections on each side)

Cleanse hair in the shower

WEN Gardenia and Green Tea

As I am Co-wash Conditioning Cleanser

I did a first cleanse with Wen and a second cleanse  with As I am

Gentle detangle with Quidad detangler comb

Gently run the Denman 9 row brush through each section under running water in the shower.

I do not dry my hair with a towel I gently put it back in the four sections with plastic clips.

Before blow dry prep

Two dime size amounts  Cleansing Conditioner and Fig Styling Creme of the on each section.

Wen Gardenia and Green Tea Cleansing Conditioner ( Can be used as a leave in conditioner.)

WEN Fig Styling Creme

Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing blow dry cream

Add Monoi Tiki Tahiti Tiare oil

Blow dry with T3 Blow Dryer with nozzle attachment on low and bursts of cool.

Take small sections  and use a wide tooth comb and T3 Brushes for blow drying.

After blowing drying each section put a dime amount of the Monoi oil on each section for moisturization.

Flat iron

Corlisse Flat iron with temperature of 350-356 degrees

Corlisse Titanium Flat iron

Take small sections of hair

Add a small amount of Ojon Damage Reverse Hair Serum to each section before flat ironing.

Ojon Damage Reverse

Make sure to run through gently the wide tooth comb or  bone come and  T3 brush through hair while running the flat iron through for smoothness. With this method I only have to go through my hair once with the flat iron.

That’s a Wrap Skirt!

Today is a beautiful sunny cool day and I had to wear the wrap skirt that I had sewn for a Master’s course that I had taken.I wanted to make a wrap skirt that didn’t necessarily look like it was a wrap skirt. The fabric I bought on sale at Joanne Fabrics, it looked so expensive and elegant to me. The skirt took me about four days to make because it actually is reversible.  Sometime in the near future I will do a style post with the reversible fabric shown.  I love how I can wear this skirt to work, church or out for an evening event. My blouse I was able to get on sale at Macy’s and I can tell it will be a work horse in my wardrobe.  I love finding key pieces that will work with so many things in my closet.

My purse is from Coach, my hubby bought it for me on the cruise we went to last year. I had to add a punch of color so what better way to do it than in my accessories.

My beagle, G made a cameo in this picture, he is always on sniff patrol.

My hubby caught me in mid conversation on this photo. This outfit just felt so good and my Vince Camuto open toe leather booties are so comfortable and edgy. My silver necklace is a gift from my hubby.

The fabric is soft and has embroidered gold and black flowers on it.

Using a WebCam to Try On Designer EyeWear

I don’t know about you; but when I go to the store and I see a cool pair of glasses or sunglasses, I have to try them on and style and profile.    Smartbuyglasses  have a “Try It On” download application that allows me to virtually try on the glasses.  You will need to have a webcam on your computer for the application to see your face. Once you download the application from the site, a window comes up  and you have to position your face in the oval window. It will tell you if you are in the right spot.  Once you are positioned right, you can try on eyeglasses to my hearts content and take pictures to see how you look in them afterwards.

The glasses attach to your face once you select your frames. The amazing thing is that you move your face from left to right and the glasses move with you. I can also make the frames larger or smaller to coincide with my face shape.

My hubby and I took a couple of sample pictures of some frames we like.

So realistic.

My hubby in some cool frames

Very cool.

I like the frames hubby had on too.

My hubby and I had a lot of fun trying on the sunglasses and shades from Smartbuyglasses.  If you get a chance, check out the site, download the application and try on the really neat glasses and experience a very unique experience.
