It was 72 degree on Thursday and but I still feel that I have to wear a jacket, sweater or both. It is not officially springtime yet; and yet even in the spring, it still can be cold. At the local park I have seen people wearing all kinds of attire; from shorts to tank tops. It is still chilly out there. I just don’t know what to say about that.
At work, I never know what the temperature may be. It can be cold in one office and more mild in another room, all at the same time. I need to be dressed for the temperature changes, so I dress in layers.
I really like a modern turtleneck that is not bulky. It looks smooth underneath sweaters and jackets. Macy’s is my go-to place to for these turtlenecks because they have such a wide array of color. To add a pop of color to the turtleneck I chose my pink cashmere cable knit sweater that is also not bulky. However, cashmere is a natural fiber that will keep you warm. I find that most of my cashmere is vintage because it is hard to know where the cashmere is sourced from and if it’s sustainable. I saw an article on Fashionista,“Three Ecofriendly Cashmere Labels to Watch.” The article highlights three eco-friendly companies, including White and Warren who reclaim cashmere by going through the recycling process of unworn cashmere. There is no governing board over what is sustainable, so there is still more work to do. All cashmere is not created equal. Take a look at this other article from Fashionista, “How truly ‘Responsible’ is your Responsible Cashmere”.

Spring is almost here and the days have begun to get much brighter and less bitter than the past few months. It is the time that those massive coats go back in the wardrobe and we start to brave showing a bit of wrist once again.
One of the most fun seasons in the year to dress for is the spring because it is all about bright colours and floral patterns. There are thousands of items to choose from and this can make it almost impossible to choose that ideal outfit for the day.

Go For Color Gone is the season for white, red and black… spring is about bursts of plenty of colour and happiness. Spring is the season where plants and flowers come back to life and this reflects in the fashion trends we see throughout. Bright accents of colors like pink, yellow and blue can work amazingly with skinny jeans and boots, and if it is warm enough a tea dress is ideal. Pastel colours like mint and peach are also popular at this time of year, and you can find them used frequently in cardigans and t shirts.
Don’t Forget Neutrals Due to all of the colour you are about to throw into your wardrobe, it is important to also have some neutral clothing pieces to work with and Pair alongside the bright colours. A simple pair of white or grey jeans, a white or black t shirt, even a pair of grey boots can be instrumental in creating the perfect outfit for this season.
Layer Up Layering is a technique which is used by many people to add multiple textures and plenty of character to an outfit. You will want to dress for the chilly temperatures as well as look stylish during the spring. One way to do this would be wearing a vest, cardigan and leather or denim jacket layered together for an effortlessly stylish look.
Light Fabrics Once the heat begins to increase a little, you will want to make the most of thinner materials such as chiffon and linen. Light and breezy is exactly what you will want during the spring to cover you but still provide the ability for the skin to breathe.
Patterns Like we have already mentioned, floral patterns are your best friend during the spring. Flowers are the focus of this season so if you can add a floral touch to your outfit you will instantly scream spring. Think floral skater skirts, graphic tees and even embroidered jackets.
Show Some Skin You don’t need to instantly take all of your winter clothes and cut off the sleeves or stitch it up higher: but spring is about showing a little more skin. Try wearing three quarter length bottoms or tops, short sleeved t shirts and linen shorts for comfort. You can make the most of the rising heat by letting your skin out to breathe, it will feel much more comfortable and help you to look like the perfect spring fashionista.
The place where I work implemented a new branding with a new logo. I have polo shirts with the old logo that I need to recycle. I was inspired to make three headbands. Today, we had a contest to see who could come up with the most creative way to recycle the old logo shirts.
Below is my hubby and I about three years ago, wearing the polo shirts. We worked on the 4th of July and was celebrating the holiday when we came home.

I searched Youtube to find a simple and easy to follow DIY plan for making the headbags. This is the one that I found that I wanted to try.
I used a rotary cutter to cut the shirt into six 1 to 1/12 inch strips on my mat. The cutter worked pretty well but you can also use scissors. The polo shirts has a little more fraying so the rotary strip was easier to maneuver over the fabric. The polo material stretches and creates a tube after it is cut. The video is easy to follow and after I went over the steps a couple of times to make sure I was following the process. I finished the back of the headband with a glue gun and I sewed the seams by hand.

And this is the finished product. A colleague liked the design, so I gave one of them to her.

Well I didn’t incorporate the logo into my design because I don’t think it would look right and it wouldn’t be as versatile, so I didn’t win the contest. Oh well! However, I feel like I did win because these headbands are well made and they can be worn in a lot of different ways. If you like wearing headbands while working out or you want to keep your hair off of your face, give these a try because they super easy and fun.
It’s that time of the season and the holiday glitter is in the air. Thanksgiving is next week, the trees in Missouri are so beautiful with all the variations of the different colors of fall. When I think of the holiday season, I see bright colors and that make me smile.
I am enjoying the embroidered look in fashion. For my wedding anniversary my husband and I saw these boots called Veraly Chelsea in navy/multicolor at DSW and I had to have them. The boot was $59.95 which is such a good bargain because I have seen embroidered boots going for $67 and up.

Styling boots with embroidery is not complicated. Make sure the boots are the focal point. If there’s too many different prints and patterns, the beautiful embroidery pattern in the boots get lost.

In the collage photo above you can see how comfortable the boots are with that extra goring on the sides for easy on and off. The heel is about 2 inches and very stable and grounded.

Are you hearing the chime of wedding bells? Or perhaps it’s the sound of the jeweller’s cash register? We all know that weddings are expensive affairs, and since the rings can be a substantial part of the price tag, couples may prefer to look for more affordable engagement rings. The good news is, you really can save money without sacrificing the quality of your rings. Below, we discuss a few tips on how to buy an affordable engagement ring that is just as romantic and eye-catching.
Take Your Time Choosing
Finding the perfect ring can take time. In fact, it can take weeks! If you want to find something special for an affordable price, taking your time to make a decision can make a difference. By giving yourself ample time to shop for engagement rings in NZ only at Diamonds.co.nz, you will be able to find a style you love and have the time to compare prices and variations.
Shop Online
In general, engagement rings can cost as much as 20% less when you buy them online. Online retailers have far fewer overheads which means they can pass their savings onto their valued customers. What’s more, online jewellery stores have more styles to choose from, as they don’t have to stock inventory for people to come in and view.
Consider a Package Deal
Many engagement rings come with matching wedding bands, and many jewellers tend to offer a discounted price if you buy the entire set at once. Don’t even hesitate to take advantage of these offers, and perhaps even ask if the jeweller will sell you the man’s wedding band at a discount, too.
Get Creative with the Metal
When it comes to engagement ring materials, we all know the classics, but platinum and gold can break the bank for many people, so you might want to consider the budget-friendlier options. Tungsten and titanium, particularly, have grown in popularity because they are more affordable and look amazing. Both metals are scratch-resistant and durable, and titanium is actually hypoallergenic.
If you do want a metal that resembles platinum, consider cobalt chrome or Argentium silver. The silver is sterling silver alloy with traces of germanium which bolsters its durability. The cobalt chrome offers a shimmering silver shade that will maintain its tone without needing to be re-plated.
Shop During the Holidays
Point number one was about taking your time to pick a ring. After all, the more time you give yourself to find a gorgeous engagement ring at a budget-friendly price, the better your chances of shopping at peak discount times.
You no doubt know about Cyber Monday and Black Friday during the month of November, but even Christmas is a great time to shop for engagement rings. Most jewellers run specials and discounts right after Christmas, so be on the lookout for great deals.
These tips should help you on your journey to find the ideal engagement ring at a great price without having to sacrifice quality at all. Happy shopping!
I think this holiday should be celebrated the whole week, not only a day. How can you limit the celebration for just one day? I know that I cannot.
My handbag enjoyment started as a small child. It is all my mother’s fault. She purchased a handbag to go with my Easter outfit. It was a time where crochet gloves and handbags were a necessity for a special occasion outfit or for a holiday. They were not expensive bags, however they were pretty and I always thought it finished my look. My outfit was never complete without a handbag.
While in college my main bag was my backpack because I needed something to be on the go, and carry all of my textbooks at one time. When I got married, I started looking at bags differently. I wanted quality and longevity, a bag that would take the test of time and age gracefully.
My first prestige handbag was a Dooney and Bourke cross body. It was a splurge for me at the time; but my hubby gave it to me for my birthday and I have never looked back.
National Handbag Day
A handbag adds class and style to my different looks whether dressed for a day at the office or going to see a movie with the hubby.
