Fashion Trends: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Hello My Elegant readers,

Yesterday and today, I have felt a hint of coolness in the air.  Parents are sending their kids back to school and I have started seeing school buses, but  it is warm enough to see convertible cars on my regular route to work. We still our holding on to summer, however with temperatures only in the low 80s, Fall is definitely approaching.

As we are transitioning into fall, I look forward to New York Mercedes Benz Fashion week to see the hot trends for the following season. The fashion industry is almost a year ahead of schedule. As we move into Fall and Winter, fashion designers will be showing their collections for Spring/Summer 2013 . I know it seems a little different to be so far ahead in fashion; but it reminds me of looking into the future and seeing what trends we are looking forward to.

In the summer time when it is still hot; we have to look for good ways to transition when the weather gets cool. The dress that I am wearing above is a maxi dress with a top over it. I have worn this outfit to work and to church. Because  it is so versatile, it is a must-have in my wardrobe. I can wear the dress with a black or burgundy blazer and boots. And now I am ready for fall and winter. This is the smart way to dress because you will have pieces in your closet that can be worn in every season.

Another great event going on during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is Fashion’s Night out on September 6th. Fashion’s Night Out began in 2009 in New York City to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping! The program is a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York. Since 2009, the event has spread to other cities throughout the world. Everyone who loves fashion will be going out and shopping the stores for the lastest finds. The stores stay open late.  If there is a Fashion’s Night Out event in your area; shop, shop, shop!

I predict that dresses will continue to  be a strong trend for fall with tights, booties or booties. In spring and summer, dresses will continue to be hot with flats and wedges.  At this point, dresses are more than a trend. They are now a classic. The two favorite designers that I am looking forward to seeing their collections is Tracey Reese and Naheem Kahn. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week website has already posted the schedule when designers will be showing their collections. Tracey Reese will be presenting her collection in New York on September 9th; while Naheem Kahn will be showing his collection on September 11th. I will not be in New York;  but I cannot wait to see the pictures and videos of the shows.

Embroidery Rules: Heart the Skirt!

Hope My Bubbling readers are having a great summer!  I am seeing leaves falling, a sign of fall.

This blouse and skirt are mainstays in my wardrobe.  I have been wearing them for years.  The blouse is a classic dress shirt made of cotton and my linen skirt is embroidered with gold and brown threads. Here’s a closer look at the embroidery. See the flowers, looks like a garden growing on my skirt.  And the fringes on the hem is the “piece de resistance.”  By the fabric being linen it does wrinkle a little bit; but I don’t care. It just adds character to the skirt to me.

I added this belt to accent my waist for a little pizazz.  I really like the ornamentation of the buckle.

This outfit is perfect for work or church, it’s easy breezy.

I added a little clog and I lay on the watch and bracelets, that’s a part of me.  I feel like somethings missing if I am not wearing a watch and bracelets.

My doggie has to be in the picture.  It likes he knows when the camera is getting ready click.  Funny!

Beat the Heat Dress Series: Part Three

Can you imagine that it’s already August. It came so quick maybe because most of the summer has been so hot.

This black and white dress is one of my favorites.
I have had it for years and it still looks and feels just as good as the first day I wore it.
Having pieces in my wardrobe like this are priceless.

The dress is made of 100% cotton fabric so completely breathable. I don’t feel hot or confined. I like to look cute but comfortable. When it’s over 100 degrees breathable fabrics  are a must.  Dresses are so breathable like a portable air conditioner. I also wear my hair up a lot to in the summer.  To give my high bun a youthful look, I add a flower.  Flowers for the hair can be purchase at the Beauty Supply store or your favorite craft store in your area.  I have added a hairpin to a silk flower and stuck the pin on the side.

Hair flower from the Beauty Supply store

The flower was about a $1, it doesn’t take a lot of money to add some pizazz to your hair or your wardrobe.

It may be hot outside; but the sun was so beautiful.
So much to be thankful for.
Remember that you are beautiful.

 Dresses rule for summer!

Using Real People in Ads… Fashion for Everyone!

Hi Bubbling Readers,

Hope you are having a wonderful day.

The heat has settled for a day or two and we have been getting a little rain. Never have I seen the grass so brown from not having enough water.

Well, my husband sent me an article to read titled, “When fashion and reality collide,” by Emanuella Grinberg for CNN.

It is so refreshing to see Fashion Design Houses going beyond the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Lanvin is one of those design houses that are using real people  to model designs for  its 2012  fall/winter advertising campaign. I have been shouting from the rooftops that more designers should use not only models; but people of all different shapes, sizes and ages. I can only speak for myself; but I can relate to someone who has a similar shape or size as me. Seeing a person with a similar shape shows me how the outfit will look on me. Seeing someone similar is also very psychological because I can see in my psyche how I think the piece of apparel will look on me. For example, pants are a hard for me to buy online because of the fit can be a little difficult. My waist is small and my hips come out a little bit. It is a God-send to see someone online with my similar shape because it prevents me from having to return clothes that don’t fit because I guessed how they would look on me.

The beautiful lady in the above photograph is a young 82. This is so cool that she is one of the “real people included in Lanvin’s 2012 winter ad campaign. We all are real people no matter if we are on in the glam world or not we all matter. I feel that it’s fine to see models in designer clothes but there’s a different connection when you see a designer use real people from all walks of like in various sizes in their ad campaign  is so refreshing.

This is a real model in this picture.  I heart this dress.

The fashion magazines would be completely different if we started seeing real people in them.  What is real people to you?  Does it matter to you to see a real person you can relate to versus seeing a model in a magazine?

My definition of real people: there is no definition because we all are real people, we are only from different walks of life.

We cannot single out  certain sizes and say that size is the ideal to be beautiful. Little girls need to know that they are beautiful and to focus on health first and foremost. If we have more realistic fashion advertisements; we can change a generations way of thinking that they have to achieve one certain look. Be free to be yourself!

This is very hopeful that the fashion industry is starting to realize that all shapes and sizes buy their designs so their ads should start reflecting who that consumer is.  What do you think?

Music for the Soul

Hey Bubbling Readers,

It’s hot, hot, hot!  Suppose to be 105 degrees today.  If you are battling the heat, make sure you drink plenty of water and take it easy. Hair is up and protected today, added a scarf for pizazz!

I have a passion for music, it’s in my blood. My mother would often tell me that when I was a little wee toddler, she would put me on top of the table at  the barbecue place and I would sing my little heart out and dance.  Man, I don’t have any pictures to prove it! Well, I am not singing on any tables today but I enjoy listening to all types of music, dancing and playing piano for relaxation.  I really have to schedule piano practicing time because I don’t want to have to re-practice what I have already studied (which has been happening).  I use to put in hours at a time but I really have to schedule time now.  Even if i am playing scales it winds me down and relaxes me.  It relaxes my puppies too because they are usually sitting at my feet while I am playing.

I don’t know about you but I can be sound asleep and if I hear music or a tune I am wide awake and wondering where that sound is coming from.  Does music get you up and moving?

I am starting to do periodic music reviews.  It may be of a CD that has came out, an old tune asking if you remember when or something that I may have found that you may have never heard before.

Christian Recording artist, Damita Haddon, wife of Stellar Award Winner Deitrick Haddon just came out with her latest CD, “Anticipation” yesterday so it’s brand new.  The songs are upbeat and minister full of joy to the soul and encouraging words of never quitting in the midst of any battle because God is with us always.

Much success to her on the latest CD.

One of my favorite Damita Haddon videos is from 2008 called “No Looking Back.”

You can listen to excerpts of the new album “Anticipation” here or on  iTunes.

Have an awesome Day!
